What is ECONYL® Regenerated Nylon?

Santos Swim's suits are made with 78% ECONYL® regenerated nylon.

ECONYL® regenerated nylon is 100% made from pre and post-consumer waste. Below we cover the ECONYL® Process:

1 - RESCUE: A variety of recovered materials such as abandoned ghost fishing nets, fabric scraps from mills, carpet flooring and industrial plastic are collected from oceans and landfills globally. This is an important step because it helps protect our ocean environments by removing fishing nets that would otherwise trap wildlife and potentially destroy fragile ecosystems. It also prevents unnecessary waste by salvaging scraps that were once destined for a lifetime in a landfill.

2 - REGENERATE: Through a radical regeneration and purification process, the collected nylon waste is recycled back to its original purity. This regenerated nylon has the same high quality as virgin nylon, without the traditional process of deriving it from oil. By eliminating the need for barrels of crude oil, CO2 emissions are also drastically reduced when creating ECONYL® regenerated nylon.

3 - REMAKE: ECONYL® regenerated nylon is then processed into textile yarn used in the fashion industry and carpet yarn used in the interior industry. This yarn is made into new fabrics and materials for designers to utilize in their own creations.

4 - REIMAGINE: The possibilities are endless and ECONYL® regenerated nylon allows designers to give new life to things once classified as waste.
